The Italian progressive rock scene was born in the early 1970s, mostly inspired by the progressive movement in Britain , but with its own features that makes it a separate musical genre. In the early to mid 1970s, Italy was one of the European countries most interested in this genre, consequently, many progressive Italian groups were born. Some received worldwide attention, such as Goblin , Le Orme, Premiata Forneria Marconi, PFM, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso . Italian progressive rock encompassed a number of different styles.
PFM in concert
A peculiar feature of Italian progressive rock in the 1970s is the extensive use of Dorian/Lydian , Phrygian/mixolydian scales rather than just the more common Ionian and Aeolian modes. Every PFM album contains at least one Mixolydian or Dorian song. The most popular bands, such as Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Premiata Forneria Marconi and Le Orme played symphonic rock heavily influenced by classical music, against the backdrop of the traditional Italian song.Le Orme shortly after releasing Collage were contacted by, the legendary Charisma Records label of Genesis and Van Der Graf Generator. Soon after, the group were able to establish relations with the super group Emerson lake and Palmer, who in 1972 invited the band to participate in a date of their tour. Besides bands we can number among pop rock stars : Mina, Celentano, Lucio Battisti, Fabrizio de Andrè, Riccardo Cocciante.
LE ORME (Shadows) Biography
Le Orme was founded in 1966 in Venice by Aldo Tagliapietra (vocals, guitar), Marino Rebeschini (drums), Nino Smeraldi (lead guitar) and Claudio Galieti (bass guitar). The band's early work evoked a feel somewhere between beat and psychedelic rock, similar to what was coming out of the United Kingdom at the time. One of their first major performances was June 2, 1966, when they and other local bands accompanied a British beat group, The Rokes, at the Teatre Corso in Mestre. Their first Album Ad Gloriam was released in1969, then in 1971Collage earned a top tenplace in the Italian charts followed up with Uomo di pezza in 1972. The band toured Italy in December 1972 with Peter Hamill of Van der Graaf Generator. It was with Felona e Sonora, their next album, considered one of the "finest examples of Italian progressive rock" that Le Orme truly gained fame beyond their home country. Le Orme recorded an English version of Felona e Sorona for Charisma Records, with translation provided by Peter Hammill.

Fabrizio Cristiano De André was an Italian singer-songwriter, composer, musician. Pop Rock music in Italy in the 70's
The Italian progressive rock scene was born in the early 1970s, mostly inspired by the progressive movement in Britain , but with its own features that makes it a separate musical genre. In the early to mid 1970s, Italy was one of the European countries most interested in this genre, consequently, many progressive Italian groups were born. Some received worldwide attention, such as Goblin , Le Orme, Premiata Forneria Marconi, PFM, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso . Italian progressive rock encompassed a number of different styles.
A peculiar feature of Italian progressive rock in the 1970s is the extensive use of Dorian/Lydian , Phrygian/mixolydian scales rather than just the more common Ionian and Aeolian modes. Every PFM album contains at least one Mixolydian or Dorian song. The most popular bands, such as Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Premiata Forneria Marconi and Le Orme played symphonic rock heavily influenced by classical music, against the backdrop of the traditional Italian song.Le Orme shortly after releasing Collage were contacted by, the legendary Charisma Records label of Genesis and Van Der Graf Generator. Soon after, the group were able to establish relations with the super group Emerson lake and Palmer, who in 1972 invited the band to participate in a date of their tour. Besides bands we can number among pop rock stars : Mina, Celentano, Lucio Battisti, Fabrizio de Andrè, Riccardo Cocciante.

Biography
Le Orme was founded in 1966 in Venice by Aldo Tagliapietra (vocals, guitar), Marino Rebeschini (drums), Nino Smeraldi (lead guitar) and Claudio Galieti (bass guitar). The band's early work evoked a feel somewhere between beat and psychedelic rock, similar to what was coming out of the United Kingdom at the time. One of their first major performances was June 2, 1966, when they and other local bands accompanied a British beat group, The Rokes, at the Teatre Corso in Mestre. Their first Album Ad Gloriam was released in1969, then in 1971Collage earned a top tenplace in the Italian charts followed up with Uomo di pezza in 1972. The band toured Italy in December 1972 with Peter Hamill of Van der Graaf Generator. It was with Felona e Sonora, their next album, considered one of the "finest examples of Italian progressive rock" that Le Orme truly gained fame beyond their home country. Le Orme recorded an English version of Felona e Sorona for Charisma Records, with translation provided by Peter Hammill.

Laura Pausini is an Italian pop singer-songwriter.
